A large, empty detached house in a "poor state of repair" is set to be restored and converted into five new apartments.

The plans for Tehidy House, on the corner of Orwell Road and Tower Road, in Felixstowe, have been submitted to East Suffolk Council.

Part of the garden of the property has already been sold and will be used for two new homes.

Planning and Design Group, on behalf of applicants DKB Property Development Limited, said: "The applicant has a clear intention to see the successful renovation and conversion of Tehidy House to secure the long-term future of the property. The proposals will deliver a high-quality development that will enhance the property, and as such, make a positive contribution to the surrounding context."

The company described the uninhabited house as in a "poor state of repair".

It said the proposals will renovate and restore the property, creating a new access off Orwell Road with five parking spaces for residents with electric charging points plus two for visitors, while reconfiguring the internal layout to create the apartments.

External alterations to the building would include the removal of a dilapidated conservatory; enlargement of THE lounge window to form patio doors along with other window and door changes, installation of solar panels on north-facing roof slopes and roof of former garage, and a single-storey extension to link main building to the garage.

Felixstowe Town Council has recommended approval and the Felixstowe Society does not feel the project would harm the conservation area.
