The World Championships are the next aim for a Suffolk rider, after picking up her first European title.

Nieve Holmes, from Wickham Market, won the European Championship in Germany, competing in EnduroGP.

EnduroGP is an offroad sport, similar to motocross, however, instead of 20-minute races, it is an endurance race, where bikers can spend around eight hours riding.

The tracks are normally around 60 miles long, and goes across different terrain, testing the bikers' all-round skills.

The 24-year-old said: "It feels really good to win the European Championships.

"I've done it for four years now, and I have finished third and second before, so to finally win, it's really nice."

Miss Holmes, who used to ride horses, started racing in 2012 after her dad who used to ride, bought her a bike.

She said: "I started riding the bike more and more and the horses less and less, and just grew to love the sport.

"I had quite a lot of big injuries when I did motocross though and wanted to do something slightly different but still biking, and found Enduro and I really enjoyed it and stuck with it."

Her first year of enduro was in 2018.

Miss Holmes works full-time for a bike shop in Melton, and says she is "very lucky" to have private tracks available in Woodbridge.

She continued: "I feel like I have almost ticked that stage off, so I feel my next step is to compete at the World Championships next year.

"If I manage to get enough sponsorship, then I would really like to defend my European Championship title as well, but that depends on if the budget allows it."

Miss Holmes has said she is looking for more sponsorship, as the sport is self-funded.

She said: "I work full-time, and all of my money pretty much, goes on the sport and it is a really expensive sport, so any sort of sponsorship goes a really long way.

Miss Holmes can be contacted on her FacebookInstagram or at nieveholmes4@aol.co.uk regarding sponsorships to help her defend her European title.
