Organisers of one of Suffolk's biggest firework displays have announced how people will be able to refund their ticket after the event was cancelled following the discovery of three unexploded bombs.

The Big Night Out was expected to be held in Long Melford this coming Friday.

However, after three unexploded mortar bombs were discovered on Wednesday the event has been cancelled.

The event, which has grown from a small community event to one that attracts around 10,000 people a year, is run by Project Seven and costs £6.

Since begining in 1982 Project Seven has raised £750,000 for local good causes and also organises a number of other events including Leestock.

Those who purchased tickets and are looking to get a refund are being asked to go to Melford Hall between 10am and 6pm, where a member of Project Seven will be able to help.

Amy Hyde Parker, whose family holds the lease to Melford Hall said: "For those who can afford it Project 7 would be grateful to retain the £6 for their chosen charities."

Charitable causes including Breakthrough Breast Cancer Suffolk, Suffolk and Essex small animal welfare, St Nicholas Hospice Care and St Nicholas Hospice, Bury St Edmunds are among those that Project Seven have helped over the years.

The future of the event was called into question after the National Trust's Melford Hall withdrew permission for use of the parkland.

However, the National Trust U-turned the decision and allowed the event to be held at the grounds.

It would have been the first time the event would have been held since 2019 after it was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic.
