A group of businesses are working together to light up Woodbridge this Christmas and “spread some festive cheer”.
Choose Woodbridge has launched a campaign to purchase Christmas street lights and decorations for several of the riverside town’s main streets.
The business and tourism association realised that the town’s streets “do not sparkle as they should at Christmas time” and decided to change that.
John Risby, the director of Choose Woodbridge, said: "We want Woodbridge to shine this Christmas and really spread some festive cheer.
"Woodbridge has a fantastic community that always rallies around to help one another, and I'm confident we can start to bring some great lighting around the town with its support.
"We know this is a difficult time for everyone, but we would really appreciate the town's generosity and hopefully bring our shopping streets some extra footfall over the festive season."
The project of purchasing suitable Christmas street decorations and lighting could take a few years to fully achieve its potential.
However, business owners aim to set up the first stage of Christmas decorations this year, starting with the Thoroughfare, Church Street and Market Hill.
Sarah Clarke, the owner of The Bull Inn, said that taking part in the project makes her “super proud”.
She added: “We roll up our sleeves and work together as one to achieve our goal. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and generosity, we’ve got it over the line.
“We all pulled in together, and we got a group of shopkeepers on board. Now we're just following through and trying to collect the money.
“We’re going to have 600 metres of lights on the three pedestrian areas of the town, which is fantastic.”
East Suffolk Council and Woodbridge Town Council are also supporting the campaign.
Choose Woodbridge is asking everyone to help in purchasing the decorations that will bring the Christmas spirit to the Woodbridge community.
