A cyclist in his 70s has died after a serious crash with a lorry in Felixstowe.
Emergency services were called at about 2.20pm on Monday to reports of a collision in High Street in the Walton area of the town.
According to a Suffolk police spokesman, the crash involved a lorry and a bicycle.
The cyclist, a man in his 70s, died at the scene.
High Street through Walton was closed for several hours and diversions were put in place.
Stuart Bird, who represents Felixstowe North and Trimley at Suffolk County Council, expressed his condolences to the cyclist after hearing of his death.
He said High Street is typically a busy road, but was not aware of any serious crashes in the area in the past.
Mr Bird said: "I can't think of any accidents that have happened in that road before. It used to be the main road connecting Felixstowe with Trimley St Mary before the bypass was built and it can get very busy.
"I did not know much about it at the time, but it is very sad to hear that there has been a fatality.
"My heart goes out to the family. Whenever someone loses their life it is a tragedy. This is very sad news."
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and who has not yet spoken to officers, or anybody who was driving in the area who might have relevant dashcam footage.
Anyone who has information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Suffolk police, quoting CAD reference 178 of October 24.
