A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in Bury St Edmunds.
Officers, including armed police, were called to reports of a person in possession of a firearm in Skyliner Way at about 11am on Tuesday.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence just after 4pm.
The man was arrested in Risbygate Street.
He was taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre for questioning.
The suspect was subsequently released under investigation while enquiries continue.
