GREEN Party candidate Julia Wakelam has been elected as a St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor for the Risbygate ward in Bury St Edmunds.
In yesterday’s election she received 394 votes, Conservative Susan Ann Glossop, who is acting clerk for Thetford Town Council, received 239 votes and Labour’s Cliff Hind, who is a Bury St Edmunds town councillor, received 128 votes.
Ms Wakelam, 60, a mother-of-two, is a solicitor who has lived in the town for 38 years and the ward since 2004.
She said: “I’m delighted people have shown such trust in me and also they are beginning to think green a bit.”
