IPSWICH: The new junction that will replace the roundabout between Civic Drive and Princes Street is now starting to take shape

Traffic can now drive across the top of what was once a nightclub in the centre of the roundabout – and the work is now back on schedule after it was delayed by last week’s snow and ice.

A temporary mini-roundabout has now been created for traffic and this will continue in operation until the new traffic lights are installed at the junction over the next two months.

The edge of the junction has still to be resurfaced and redesigned, but these pictures taken from the top of the nearby Willis building show how much it has changed.

The work on the junction is due to be completed by April, but which time it will be controlled by traffic lights and pedestrian crossings will enable people to walk from the town centre to the railway station without going through the forbidding subways.

While work on the junction continues, another significant phase of the Travel Ipswich programme is due to start on Monday.

The remodelling of the Old Cattle Market bus station, with changes to Falcon Street and Dogs Head Street is due to begin.

Falcon Street will be closed beyond the entrance to the Buttermarket car park. Silent Street and the Old Cattlemarket will also be closed.

The bus station will remain in operation, but there will be some alterations to bus movements during the work which is expected to continue until the summer.
