A call has gone out today for businesses to sign up for a summer of fun and fierce – but friendly – competition, as it launches the fourth Towergate Accumulator Challenge.

The three-month campaign kicks off on Thursday, June 20, when businesses will each be handed £50 – donated by event sponsors Towergate Insurance – which they must turn into as much money as possible to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care, in Bury St Edmunds. Any fundraising activity is allowed, as long as it is legal and fun.

Already more than 20 firms have signed up for the challenge, but it is not too late for businesses to get involved.

Liz Spillane, hospice corporate fundraiser, said: “We want as many businesses as possible to put their thinking caps on to transform a small stake into big bucks.”

She wants firms to let their competitive sides loose to be crowned corporate champions, like last year’s winning business – Jacobs Allen chartered accountants, of Haverhill and Bury. The firm raised £9,476.54 through a race night, wine tasting evening and ready steady cook challenge and collection.

Any business can get involved. Already signed up are Jacobs Allen; 2011 winners CurveMotion, of Bury; Todds Removals, of Sudbury; Steed and Steed solicitors, of Sudbury; SJ Funeral Services, of Sudbury; Gross & Co, of Bury; Abbeycroft Leisure, of Bury and Haverhill; Baker Tilley chartered accountants, of Bury; Knights Lowe chartered accountants, of Bury; and The Coffee House, of Bury.

Event supporters the East Anglian Daily Times, the Mercury series and Thetford and Brandon Times will be updating readers with what participants have been doing to make money throughout the three-month challenge.

In 2012, the 52 teams which took part in the challenge raised £65,549 for the hospice.
