A fire crew in Essex were called to a fire at a miniature railway station building this morning.

It happened at Colchester Zoo at 7.49am with one appliance from Colchester sent to the scene.

Firefighters tackled the fire, which involved a miniature railway station building and train, using one hose reel.

Crews reported the building, which measured 15metres by 5metres, has been completely destroyed.

A joint fire service and police investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the blaze.

A police spokesman said: Essex Police was called at 8.20am this morning by the fire service with reports of a fire at Colchester Zoo affecting the miniature railway.

“Officers are liaising with fire colleagues on scene.”
