The White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh has launched a new themed afternoon tea ‘I do like to be beside the seaside’

The White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh is putting a summertime twist on its popular afternoon tea menu this August.

The hotel’s tea offering changes theme each month, and shortly cake lovers will be able to get their hands on the ‘I do like to be beside the seaside’ offering.

So, what’s on the menu?

To begin is a selection of dainty finger sandwiches, including free-range egg mayonnaise with cress, smoked salmon with cream cheese, and cucumber and Suffolk ham with Aspall Cyder mustard.

Bringing a pop of fun to the occasion, sandwiches will be served with crunchy sea salt popcorn!

Next up are the hotel’s fluffy and crunchy golden fruit scones, with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

And then come the pieces de resistance – cakes.

Expect pina colada cheesecake, pistachio macarons, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate truffle seashells, a jelly bucket and spade and a stick of White Lion rock thrown in for good measure.

The tea is served with your choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

And during National Afternoon Tea Week (August 14 to 20) can be ordered as a takeaway to enjoy on the beach, while on August 19 afternoon teas will be served all afternoon from 12noon on the beach. No booking for the Saturday is needed, and blankets will be provided by the hotel.

The afternoon tea is £15 per person or £21.50 with a glass of prosecco, and is available to book from 3pm to 5pm each day.
