Suffolk police have this evening confirmed that a man involved in a serious crash on the A11 at Barton Mills has died.

The crash happened at about 2.20pm and closed the road in both directions between the A1065 at Fiveways Roundabout, near Mildenhall, and the B1085, near Red Lodge.

A police spokesman said a gold VW Golf and a white Suzuki Swift were involved.

The air ambulance attended alongside paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service to treat those wounded.

The driver of the Golf – a man in his 80s – has been confirmed to have died at the scene.

Two people in the Suzuki were taken to hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not believed to be serious.

The northbound carriageway was closed while Suffolk police carry out their investigations, re-opening shortly after 7.45pm.

Four Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service vehicles attended to assist police and ambulance crews.
