The new sponsor of Ipswich Academy, which is in special measures, has been announced.
Paradigm Trust is to replace the Learning Schools Trust which is currently running the school, formerly known as Holywells High School.
In a statement The Learning Schools Trust admitted it had “not done enough” to help the school improve following January’s damning Ofsted report which placed the academy into special measures.
Steve Bolingbroke, chief executive of the Learning Schools Trust, said: “Learning Schools Trust is committed to achieving the best results for students at Ipswich Academy. We are proud of what we have achieved in the school since 2011 but this year’s results and the Ofsted inspection show that we have not done enough, quickly enough, to help the school to improve.
“Since December, we have been working with DFE (Department for Education) and Suffolk County Council to identify what the school needs to move forward.
“We have agreed that it is in the best interests of the school that a different sponsor would be better placed to make the rapid improvements that are needed.”
Paradigm Trust is a multi-academy trust which formed in September 2013. It will take over Ipswich Academy from September 1.
Amanda Phillips, executive principal of Paradigm Trust said, “Paradigm Trust aims to lead by example – to exemplify excellent educational practice. As one of our schools, Ipswich Academy will provide each student with the outstanding education that they deserve.
“Paradigm Trust has successfully delivered significant school improvement on three separate occasions in institutions that were in special measures. The fundamental key characteristics are about a relentless focus on the quality of the teaching, day in and day out and leadership and management.
“We have a strong track record of high levels of performance in all these areas, we have significantly raised standards in our existing schools, and we believe that we are more than capable of delivering similar results in our new school.”
To support the transition between academies, current principal Pamela Hutchison, who has been in post since September, will remain at the school until the end of the year.
