The new Aldi store at Pinewood is now under construction and expected to open later this year.
The 1,820 square metre supermarket will be within walking distance of the existing Tesco Extra on the Copdock interchange site, and is likely to create competition for the global chain with its famous low prices.
An Aldi spokesperson said this week: “We are in the process of constructing our new store at Scrivener Drive, Ipswich, and expect this to open later this year.”
A 105-space car park will be created alongside the store and it is set to create 50 new jobs. It will be the third Aldi to open in the town.
German chain Aldi has won a variety of awards including Which? Best Supermarket in 2015 and gained a Retail Industry Award in the same year. it is also part of The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers list.
