A brand new mud challenge is coming to Suffolk and participants have the opportunity to raise money for Fresh Start – new beginnings (FS-nb), a charity which supports children recovering from sexual abuse.

The Splat Quack Go mud challenge will take place on Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, September 16, at Hollesley, near Woodbridge.

Competitors will be given the option to raise money for FB-nb and around 700 people are expected to take part.

Splat Quack Go is a friendly obstacle race suitable for all abilities.

Participants will be running (or walking) through a course packed with muddy ditches, tunnels, horse jumps, cargo nets and ponds, while cheered on by spectators and supporters.

There will also be six photographers along the route, to ensure competitors get some memorable action shots for posterity.

The 6km or 12km mud run on June 16 is for adults over 16, but on September 16, there will be a second event at the same location, with a smaller 3k family and children mud event, designed to encourage children aged six and upwards to join in the muddy fun.

FS-nb will be fielding a team at the event.

Sam Brimicombe, from FS–nb, said: “Sexual abuse has a devastating effect on children.

“Fresh Start – new beginnings is a lifeline to many families and we’re only able to do our job because of fundraising and sponsorship from the local community.

“That’s why the Splat Quack Go mud challenge is so important to us. Hopefully, the community will dig deep to raise funds for a great local charity.

“It costs around £2,500 per child we help. We can’t keep going without donations.”

Fresh Start – new beginnings is a positive charity working with children to take away the feelings of blame, shame and guilt that abuse can bring.

The charity helps children to understand what has happened, find ways to cope, and ultimately move forwards.
