Ipswich railway station is to get a “deep clean” before it is rebuilt early next year.
It is one of 23 stations to get the treatment under a £300,000 programme to improve its stations.
The extra focus on cleanliness will see a team of specialist cleaners descend on the stations, in addition to the usual cleaning routines, thoroughly cleaning away grime from all areas of the stations including glazing and signage.
Work to rebuild the station is due to start at the end of the year with a new passenger waiting area being created with kiosks and shops at the side.
The forecourt of the station is also due to be radically changed to make life easier for pedestrians, public transport, and taxis – with a separate entrance created for the station’s car park.
Andrew Goodrum from Abellio Greater Anglia said: “With thousands of people passing through our stations every day, it is really important that our cleaning regime is efficient and effective. This new programme has been designed so that we achieve the highest standards of cleanliness and improve our customers’ experience at some of the busiest stations across our network.”
