Families were out in force at the weekend to mark the first week of December with a visit to the region’s newest festive light show.

Enlightened Moments officially launched the event (Enlightened) in Colchester, taking over the entirety of Castle Park with a 1.5km family-friendly trail meandering around the green space’s walkways.

We were some of the first through the gates (entry is at the top of the park near the castle), joining other small groups of families, dates and friend groups for the attraction.

There was certainly a lot of anticipation in the air – particularly as previous Christmas events in the park haven’t always gone to plan (who can forget the melting ice skating rink?). Would this live up to expectations?

East Anglian Daily Times:

The answer is yes. While I’d say it’s probably got more of a ‘wow’ factor for younger visitors, who were running around having the time of their lives, there is definitely something for all generations to enjoy here.

Quirky light tunnels for selfies, magical lanterns (we won’t spoil the surprise), a wishing wall, the park’s trees dazzlingly up lit in a rainbow of colours.

Our highlight was the animated illuminations projected onto the castle wall – simply beautiful.

There are refreshments near the pond (doughnuts, hot dogs and the like) too.

A very nice way to get into the yuletide spirit. Well organised...and not too crowded either.

Enlightened is on until December 31 with entry every 15 minutes from 5pm to 8.30pm. A family ticket is £55 for two adults, adults are £16 and children £12. Under threes and carers accompanying a disabled visitor are free.

There is no parking on site, but car parks are located nearby. And the route is largely suitable for buggies, but wheelchair users may struggle on the upward leg of the route where there are some steps.

Tickets must be pre-booked at colchester-events.co.uk
