The Bury St Edmunds Woodcraft Folk is starting up a new group for children and young people.
Its Pioneer group will be for nine to 12 year olds which will be run by local volunteers.
Activities are centred on co-operative principles with games and promoting teamwork.
Children are given many opportunities to directly lead and make decisions in the group, supporting each other to create an environment for nurturing self confidence and building strong friendships. The organisation encourages youth to understand and participate in their local, national and international communities, whilst having lots of fun together.
A typical group night might include co-operative games, activities exploring current social justice topics, bushcraft skills, arts, crafts and singing.
Members of the movement also take part in weekly group nights and have opportunities to go on residential and camping trips with their peers.
There is a free taster session on Tuesday, October 16, at the Southgate Community Centre, from 5.45pm to 7.15pm, with the hope of getting the group up and running after the October half term.
Anyone who is interested in joining or volunteering can contact Lauren Karstadt for more information by email to lauren@woodcraft.org.uk or call on 07422 966127.
