The region could be set for some further snow showers after the Met Office issued another yellow warning for snow until Thursday night.
In its warning - from 12.05am until 11.55pm on Thursday – the Met Office said: “Further snow showers are expected on Thursday, accompanied by very low temperatures.
“There is the possibility of travel delays on roads, stranding some vehicles and passengers, and delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.
“Some rural communities could become or remain cut off. Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.”

Aiden McGivern, Met Office forecaster, said: “Through Wednesday night, we are expecting further snow showers for eastern parts of Britain.
“For most places, whether you’ve got the snow or clear skies, temperatures will be well below freezing.
“It will be a bitterly cold start to Thursday and we add in weather fronts coming in from the south on top of the cold air.
“We will see some further snowfall pushing into south east England and then eventually East Anglia and the Midlands associated with this system.
“A further few centimetres could fall in places and combined with strong winds, it’s going to feel bitterly cold.”
