Part of a north Essex caravan site was evacuated last night after one of the holiday homes was completely destroyed by fire.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a caravan fire in St Osyth at 10.10pm.
Crews from Weeley, Brightlingsea, Wivenhoe and two from Clacton arrived to find the 40ft-long caravan was fully alight.
“Access to the site was difficult, but crews quickly reached the property and began tackling the fire,” a fire service spokesman added.
“Crews also worked with the police and the site owner to evacuate around 20-30 caravans in the immediate area.”
The fire was out by 10.55pm. However, firefighters stayed on the scene to dampen down hotspots and ensure the site was safe.
The roof of the caravan collapsed during the fire, which left the holiday home completely destroyed.
Firefighters have recorded the cause of the fire as either accidental or deliberate.
