A new Greek café has opened its doors in a west Suffolk town, bringing the dream of a woman from Crete to fruition.

Ammos Café Bistro opened officially at 15 The Guineas Shopping Centre in Newmarket on Sunday, September 8.

Owner Anna Hinchliff, who moved to the UK 12 years ago from Crete in Greece, where her family still run a restaurant, launched Ammos alongside her sister, who is the manager.

"We've got everything from cooked brunches with eggs and sourdough and salmon to shakshuka, spinach and feta omlettes, French toast and even a full Greek-lish, which is a full English with Greek sausages," Ms Hinchliff said.

"We did a little opening event on the Saturday where we had tasters of the menu and people came in and tried our food, and then we opened on Sunday.

"So far, we have had great feedback and we've had 280 new followers in the last few days, which we're really pleased about.

"It has just been amazing and we're not even finished yet as we're launching lunches soon as well," she added.

She then worked at The Olive Grove in Bury St Edmunds before deciding she wanted to run her own eatery.

"I really needed a break and at the same time The Olive Grove in Bury St Edmunds opened so I worked there for a year and a half," she said.

"I am so passionate about food, I grow my own veggies in the garden and love making things. I knew that an office job was not for me."

She had been looking for three years before she found 15 The Guineas and said it felt like "fate" as the unit had been a Greek restaurant previously.

Ammos Cafe Bistro is open from Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm.
