A new experience is coming to a Suffolk farm this summer where visitors can get up close and personal with Highland cows.

Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, between Claydon and Needham Market,  has announced the new experience will start running in August.

Visitors will now be able to meet the farm's Highland cows in their enclosure and groom, stroke and feed the beautiful beasts with the guidance of trained staff.

A spokesman for the farm said: "Our girls have been undergoing training for the last few months and it’s safe to say they absolutely love all the fuss and attention they get and they cannot wait to meet you!"

They added: "We’ll show you their favourite scratching spots and we are happy to take photos and videos for you."

There will be a short safety talk before every experience to make sure that both the cows and visitors are comfortable and well looked after.

The experience will last approximately 30 minutes and is currently only available for people aged 16 years and over.

The farm says they are working on an experience for under 16s which will be released in the near future.

Animal feeding resumed at the farm last month after it was forced to temporarily close after members of the public fell sick.

Investigations found it was linked to a possible outbreak of E.coli and Cryptosporidium.

The farm said in a statement: "Within our new contact zone there will be goats, sheep and Highland cows which can be fed on a flat hand. Our animals are very excited about it as they have missed their extra snacks.

"Also within this zone is a new animal encounter area which will mean we are able to run our pig, pony and goat grooming as well as our bunny barn daily."
