A fun-filled charity event, popular among people living close by, successfully raised a whopping £38,000 for underprivileged children's causes.
The Piglet Junior Hog obstacle course, an event organised to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), saw an enthusiastic participation of more than 1,150 people, pulling together what the organisers described as an "astonishing" sum of £38,000.
The charity event was held at Wantisden Hall, near Woodbridge, on Sunday, July 14.
Becky Redbond, events fundraising manager, was thrilled and highlighted the event's growing popularity.
She said: “It was another brilliant day and everyone had so much fun.
“Half of those who signed up were first-timers, so it’s great that word is spreading and more people are getting involved."
“As for the money raised, it’s an astonishing amount and will make such a difference to the children and families receiving our care and support.”
The muddy, family-friendly four-kilometre obstacle course was taken on by participants ranging in age from eight upwards.
The event saw special participation from family and friends who turned up to honour J-Jay Wood, a patient at EACH who died from clear cell sarcoma.
Marie, J-Jay's mother, commemorating her son, expressed her desire to continue supporting the event in memory of her son.
“We hope to be able to run every year in memory of J-Jay and raise as much as we can for EACH,” she said.
The Piglet event has developed a loyal following, with Ms Redbond adding: “There’s nothing quite like it in the area and the fact so many people come back year after year speaks volumes."
Further unique challenges are yet to come at Wantisden Hall, with the Whole Hog and The Boss Hog events scheduled for October.
All are invited to join in the fun and make a difference, with opportunities to sign up still available.
