A west Suffolk village bar has been crowned pub of the year after winning a prestigious brewery award.

The Greyhound in Ixworth, near Bury St Edmunds, has been run by Colin and Sue Pearce since they took on the licence from Greene King in 1982.

Under their ownership, the Greyhound has been at the centre of community life in the village and two years they celebrated the 40th anniversary of running the pub.

Speaking at the time, Mr Pearce said: "I think our key to success over the last 40 years has been putting the community first - be it looking after our locals and regulars or hosting events and charity fundraisers."

The hard work of the landlords has now been recognised in an award from the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) for West Suffolk and Borders.

The pub shared the news of being named Rural Pub of the Year 2024 on social media and said: "What a massive achievement we have been awarded."

CAMRA campaigns and raises awareness for the availability of good quality beer and cider.
