Fire crews from across Suffolk tackled a blaze throughout the night and into the early hours.
It took firefighters more than six hours to get the blaze under control in Great Blakenham.
The call came in at about 11pm on Monday (January 16) and the stop message was not received until 5.39am this morning (January 17).
It has since been confirmed that the fire broke out at Sackers Recycling Centre and engulfed 300 tonnes of scrap metal.
At about 2am, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service urged people to keep their windows and door shut due to the smoke.

Appliances from Hadleigh, Stowmarket, Needham Market, two from Princes Street and two from Ipswich East were in attendance.
