A huge fire has taken hold in a west Suffolk village. 

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Hurdle Drove in West Row, near Mildenhall, at about 11.45am on Wednesday. 

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said at least four appliances were first called.

In an update at 3pm, nine appliances were battling the blaze.

The fire is in a 40 by 10 metre workshop and is spreading to an adjacent building.

Police have shut the road while emergency services deal with the incident. 

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

Thick black smoke can be seen rising into the air in the surrounding area.
